German troops parade in a Danish town

Contrary to most other of the German occupied countries, we were allowed to keep a certain amount of political freedom, and even our army. A Danish coalition goverment, between the four largest parties was formed and life went on.

Later in the war fuel became rationed. The picture shows a way of solving this problem.

However, there were some changes. The German presence were clearly felt. Offices and building were taken over by the Wehrmacht, German bands marched through the streets, and German soldiers became a common sight in Danish shops.
