I was born on August 9th, 1974 in Flensburg close to the German-Danish border. After finishing school and military service there in 1995, I moved to Kiel. As a student of the Christian-Albrechts-Universität, I made my exams in history, German and philosophy.
Since October 2004 I am working as an university assistent for the departement of History (Schleswig-Holstein history) of Christian- Albrechts-Universität Kiel.
Apart from everything "historic" I am devoted to fencing and cricket.
My special field of interest since early childhood was and still is military history. I discovered this "world" through painting military miniatures, playing war games and looking for any information on uniforms, arms and armour available to me. Until today, fortunately, nothing really has changed about that.
Through the years I have dealt with some aspects of the Schleswig-Holstein-related parts of Danish military history which included the army of the Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp (1698-1720) and the two Schleswig Wars (1848-1851 and 1864). Moreover, I am specially interested in South American, Colonial and inter-war period (1918-1939) military history.
In 2001 I came into contact with Gert, allured by his marvellous website. The site and its forum gave me inspiration and the great opportunity to come into contact with like-minded people all over the world.
